We have social media sites, resumes, LinkedIn, we have even gone to creating promotional websites for ourselves. Any possible way to highlight your skills and abilities is a positive attribute. There a million outlets so using a website creates for a center to access all those resources and material. It allows you to show up to a job interview and instead of going through a million different resource, you can open a website and everything your interviewer wants is easily accessible. Not to mention, if the interviewer wants to go and give your material another overview. He can easily access your accounts and portfolio.
As for people in the communication sector, the website itself is a highlight of the skills you can bring to an organization. There is a need for people who can work with technology. Not everyone needs to be an expert, but the ability to showcase yourself in a professional light, will give the company the belief you can showcase their company in that same light.
